On & About the Edges: Opening Reception & Walking Tour

Cosponsored by the Blacksburg Museum and the Armory Gallery

Opening 5-7 p.m. The Armory Gallery, 201 Draper Road, Blacksburg

6 p.m. Historic Sixteen Squares Walking Tour, Reservations Required

On & About the Edges: Exploring the Historic and Visual Perimeters of Blacksburg is a juried exhibit featuring artworks based on the eight historic buildings owned by the Town of Blacksburg. Works by local artists in a variety of media explore the architectural details and historical significance of these important structures.

In conjunction with the opening, the Blacksburg Museum will offer a walking tour at 6 p.m. of the Sixteen Squares, the original town limits established in 1798. Reservations are required. Please call 558-0730 or email museum@blacksburg.gov to make a reservation. The tour will begin in the parking lot of the Blacksburg Municipal Building, 300 South Main Street and take approximately 45 minutes. The tour will be rescheduled in the event of rain.

Coal firm violated Clean Air Act more than 4,630 times, prosecutors allege

By The Associated Press

Federal prosecutors allege that Massey Energy Co. and its subsidiaries have illegally poured pollutants into West Virginia and Kentucky waterways about 4,633 times within the past six years — roughly 69,071 days’ worth of violations of the U.S. Clean Water Act.
