On Saturday, February 17, Eddie Goode will lead a workshop on frontier living at Virginia’s Explore Park on the Blue Ridge Parkway. This workshop is open to folks ages 8 and up. Participants will explore tools, materials, and construction techniques used by early settlers looking to make a home in Southwest Virginia in the middle of the 18th century. On February 11, there will be a ranger-led tour entitled Planting Seeds of Despair at the Booker T. Washington National Monument in Hardy. This tour will begin at 2 pm, and is designed to introduce park visitors to the impact of tobacco cultivation on free and enslaved Virginians in the 1850’s. To learn more, please visit the Booker T.
